According to an official, this step will help in creating a more favorable business and civil-centered environment in the country. This law is part of the government’s efforts to improve the business environment of the country. Earlier in 2023, the public belief (amendment in provisions) was passed, under which 183 provisions of 42 Central Acts administered by 19 ministries and departments were ‘crime-free’. Through this Act, the government had removed imprisonment and/or fine in some provisions. In some rules, imprisonment was removed and the fine was upheld, while in some cases imprisonment and fine were converted into just fine.

More than 40,000 unnecessary compliance has already been abolished

In his Independence Day address on August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “There are laws in our country that may look amazing to hear, but provide imprisonment on minor things and no one ever paid attention to them. I have taken the initiative to ensure that such unnecessary laws that put Indian citizens behind bars, should be abolished. We had earlier introduced a bill in Parliament, we have brought it again this time. ”The government has previously abolished more than 40,000 unnecessary compliances. It has abolished more than 1500 old laws.
