The app is named after US President Donald Trump, but it has his AI-birthted videos and photos with the help of which investors have been given a big lime. Unknown cyber thugs carried out the scam through an app- ‘Trump Hotel Rental’ (now closed), urging investors to deposit funds for heavy returns in the short term. Also in some cases more than 100% profit was promised.

More than 800 investors trapped

Police claimed that more than 800 investors were caught in the scam, some of which invested more than Rs 10 lakh in the hope of quick returns. In addition to Karnataka’s Haaveri, cases have been registered in Bengaluru, Tomakuru, Mangaluru, Hubli, Dharwad, Kalburgi, Shivamogga, Ballari, and Bidar police stations. Officials started investigation on the basis of complaints. According to officials of CEN (Cyber ​​Crime, Economic Offenses, Narcotics), the advertisements of the closed app now promised attractive returns, work opportunities and investment possibilities abroad.

How was it cheated?

CEN department sources said that a dashboard on the app gave a list of income on investment and was used to attract more investment. On every complete task handed over to the investor, the app showed increasing his ‘income’ on the dashboard but was not actually accumulating. A total of 15 cases have been registered in Haveri district. Many victims lost money in this scheme, but they are not coming forward to file a complaint. This year, between January 25 and April 4, a lawyer suffered a loss of about 6 lakh rupees.

What did the police tell?

SP Anshu Kumar of Haaveri district said- “Some cases of forgery with people have come up from the district through the app in the name of Trump, in this app named Trump Hotel Rental, the first investor is asked to invest 50 or 100 rupees and he gets Rs 500 returns from the app, after winning the trust of investors, after winning the trust of investors, the app is given a big return in the app and thus it is appropriate to invest a big return in return and thus.
