Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has recently shared mental health guidelines for students. He said that schools should make a mantle health policy and train the staff, so that the students can get a supporting atmosphere and their mental health problems can be understood properly.

Deepika Padukone has shared a post of The Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF) in her Instagram Story. Deepika described it as “a historical step for student mental health”. The post that Deepika Padukone has shared is a short and brief version of the Supreme Court students regarding mental health and wellbying.

On July 26, the Supreme Court described mental health as part of the fundamental right of life and dignity i.e. Article 21. Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta shared 15 guidelines and reprimanded the coaching centers to ignore the mental health of the students.

The Supreme Court has said that these guidelines will remain in force until a concrete law is made on it. All schools and colleges have been asked to prepare a common mental health policy.

This policy should be based on ‘Asha Draft’, ‘Prasadpan Yojana’ and ‘National Suicide Prevention Strategy’. It will have to be reviewed every year and also shared on the website and notice board.

This step was taken when the court was hearing an appeal related to the death of a 17 -year -old NEET student. In 2024, the student died in Visakhapatnam. His father had demanded a CBI probe. Although the Andhra Pradesh High Court had rejected this demand, now the Supreme Court has approved the CBI investigation.

The court has said that institutions where there are 100 or more students, should have at least one trend counselor, psychologist or social worker. Small institutions have to join the external mantle health experts. Also, schools and colleges will have to train their entire staff twice a year with the help of professionals.

Institutions must ensure that students have a safe and private way to complain of bullying, tampering, ragging or any kind of exploitation. Along with this, parents will also be made aware of mental health through regular sessions.

Schools will have to keep an anonymous record of their mental health related work and prepare its report every year. Along with this, activities like sports, arts and personality development will also be given importance in addition to studies. Exams should be planned in such a way that there is no more pressure on children. The objective is that children should not only go through numbers, but also improve themselves and make themselves better.

The bench has clearly stated, if steps were not taken on time or correctly in a case, especially when the child takes suicides or damage to harm himself, it will be considered as the responsibility of the institution and strict legal and regulatory action will be taken on the administration.
