Delhi News: Delhi’s industrial development breaks records, 3 times more than national average
Delhi’s industrial growth has performed a bang during the financial year 2024-25. The manufacturing sector of Delhi has recorded a tremendous growth of 11.9 percent, which is about three times higher than the national average of 4.1 percent. According to PTI news, this information has been revealed in the recently released “Index of Industrial Production (IIP)” by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of Delhi Government.
Industrial activities boom at local level
According to the report, in 2024-25, Delhi’s total industrial production rose 9.19 percent as compared to 2023-24 last year, while the national average industrial growth rate was just 4 percent. These figures show that there is a relatively sharp improvement in industrial activities at local level in Delhi.
Strong growth seen in these sectors
The report has been prepared as the base year as the base year. The data has been collected from 134 manufacturing units and 1 power generation unit. These units produce a total of 90 products in the category. The sector in which the growth has been recorded included food products, leather and related products, motor vehicles, other transport equipment, chemical and chemical products, beverages, products made of metal, 9 of the 23 manufacturing groups in these areas recorded positive growth.
Decline in these product categories
The report said that IIPs declined in 13 major product categories. These include apparel manufacturing, wood and cork products (except furniture), computer, electronic and optical products, refined petroleum, pharmaceuticals, machinery and equipment etc. According to the report, some units closed, shifting or zero production are the main reasons behind the decline in these areas.
