The Delhi government has written to the Air Quality Commission (CAQM) to stop the ban on the restriction of fuel on old vehicles. This information was given by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Thursday.
He said that this rule should not be implemented until the automatic number plate identifying system (ANPR) is fully implemented throughout the NCR. The government is taking several steps to reduce air pollution and its effect will be seen soon.
In fact, CAQM ordered in April that fuel will not be added to older vehicles from July 1, so that pollution can be reduced. This rule is applicable to Delhi as well as old vehicles from outside.
AnPR cameras have not yet been installed in the neighboring cities of Delhi like Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad. With this, the vehicle owners can go out of Delhi and get fuel filled. In such a situation, the risk of becoming an illegal fuel market may increase.
Many vehicles have problems in high security registration plates (HSRP), so that ANPR is not able to recognize them properly.
Delhi government announced a new rule in March
On March 1, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa had said that petrol and diesel will not be given to 15 years and more than July. The Delhi government has taken this step to control air pollution.
He had said that we are putting gadgets on petrol pumps which will identify vehicles older than 15 years. Petrol and diesel will not be given to such vehicles.
Delhi’s air as much as 38 cigarette smoking every day
In November 2013, the average pollution level in Delhi was 287 AQI. In November 2024, the pollution level reached above an average of 500 AQI. According to media reports, in 2013, a person was taking as much smoke as 10 cigarettes through pollution. In 2024, the figure rose to 38 cigarettes.
