Bhubaneswar: Officials of the Department of Prevention of Corruption Vigilance (Vigilance) recovered Rs 1.43 crore in cash, 1.5 kg and more than 4.6 kg silver from a “secret room” in the residence of a sub -one Ranger (Deputy Forest Ranger) in Koraput district of Odisha on Friday. Korapur Vigilance Superintendent of Police (SP) Ravindra Kumar Panda said that in addition, vigilance teams also recovered a multi -storey building, three flats, two high -value plots, bank deposits worth Rs 1.33 crore, two cars and other household items worth more than Rs 15 lakh during the search.

The Vigilance Department launched a search operation at six locations of the upper-cum-cum-prabhari Ram Chandra Nepak of Japore One Range. He is accused of possessing more assets from known sources of income. The department said in a statement that the officer’s gross monthly salary is Rs 76,880 (pure Rs 69,680). Nepak started his career as a village forest worker on March 9, 1989 under the Social Forestry Division in Koraput. The statement said that about Rs 1.4 crore was recovered in a secret room in a flat in the flat located in the Golden Height Residential Apartment of Japore Town under a raid against Ramchandra Nepak. The validity of the recovered property, the total weight of gold and other documents are under investigation. It is being seen from which source and how such a large property was collected.
Disproportionate assets
Deputy Ranger Shri Ramchandra Nekk is accused of depositing disproportionate assets than his known income. This income does not match their jobs and government salary. On this basis, this investigation was started, in which such a huge cash and assets have been exposed. Vigilance team is investigating the validity, bank accounts, documents and other electronic evidence of the properties. The possibility of detaining Mr. Nekk for questioning cannot be ruled out. This action is considered to be another major achievement of the Vigilance Department against government corruption in Odisha. In the coming days, the investigation can lead to more shocking revelations.
