Direct tax collection declines by 3.95%, learn from April 1 to August 11

The Net Direct Tax Collection has so far fell by 3.95 percent to Rs 6.64 lakh crore in the current financial year 2025-26. A tax collection of Rs 6.91 lakh crore was done in FY 2024-25
During this period, the Net Company Tax Collection was around Rs 2.29 lakh crore, while the non-company tax (which includes individuals, Hindu undivided families and company) collection was Rs 4.12 lakh crore. According to government data, the Security Transaction Tax (STT) collection was Rs 22,362 crore between April 1 and August 11. Pure collections declined by 3.95 percent to about 6.64 lakh crore rupees. It was Rs 6.91 lakh crore in the same period of the previous financial year (2024-25).
10 percent huge increase in tax refund
The tax refund released so far in the current financial year increased by 10 percent to Rs 1.35 lakh crore. In the current financial year, between April 1 and August 11, the gross collection (before refund) declined by 1.87 percent to Rs 7.99 lakh crore, which was Rs 8.14 lakh crore in the same period a year ago. The government has estimated the direct tax collection to be Rs 25.20 lakh crore in the current financial year (2025-26), which is 12.7 percent more on a annual basis. The government aims to collect Rs 78,000 crore from Security Transaction Tax in FY 2025-26.
