Nawada, May 21 (HS). Taking strict action against illegal sand mining in Nawada district, Nawada DM Prashant Kumar and SP Karthikeya Sharma have started a massive raid campaign, under which 12 sand laden tractors have been seized on Tuesday.
A joint team of Nawada Police and Mining Department conducted a raid against illegal sand mining and transportation and seized 13 sand laden tractors. The Sakri river is said to be a sand ghat located in Gosain Bigha village of Nemdarganj police station area. On receiving information about illegal sand mining on a large scale, a team was formed and a raid was conducted.
At the time of the raid, about two dozen tractors were engaged in sand mining and transportation on the other side of the sand ghat. But seeing the police team, the illegal miners managed to escape with several tractors. 13 tractors were confiscated during this period. All tractors were found loaded with sand. No illegal miner could be arrested in the raid. Nemdarganj Police Station Head Rajeev Kumar, Additional Station Head Nilesh Kumar Singh and Mine Inspector Apoorva along with District Police Force and Scott personnel were involved in the raid.
Mine Inspector lodged FIR
In this case, an FIR has been lodged by Mine Inspector Apoorva Singh at Nemdarganj police station against the owners and drivers of the tractors. In the FIR, penalties have also been imposed on all the tractors. The police station chief said that in this case the owners and drivers are being identified from the registration numbers and chassis numbers of the tractors seized. Once the identity is established, he will be arrested and sent to jail. Illegal mining is being done on a large scale from the mostly illegal sand ghats of the district. Nawada DM Prashant Kumar CH and SP Karthikeya K Sharma have instructed all the COs and police station heads, apart from the mining department, to take strict action against illegal mining.
