Every year Utpanna Ekadashi is celebrated on the Ekadashi date of Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha month. This day is considered dedicated to the worship of Goddess Ekadashi along with Lord Vishnu. According to mythology, Ansh Devi Ekadashi of Lord Vishnu had appeared on the Ekadashi date of Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha month. Therefore this day is known as Utpana Ekadashi. According to Drik Panchang, this year Utpanna Ekadashi is on 26th November. On this day, along with worshiping Lord Vishnu and Ekadashi Devi, it is considered important to keep some things in mind. What not to do on the day of Utpanna Ekadashi?
– Plucking a Tulsi leaf on the day of Ekadashi fast is considered prohibited. Therefore, to worship Lord Vishnu, a Tulsi leaf should be plucked and kept a day before the Ekadashi fast.
– Cutting hair and nails is considered prohibited during Ekadashi fast.
– After Ekadashi fast, food should be provided to Brahmins and the poor on Dwadashi date.
– During Ekadashi fast, avoid anger and speak sweet words.
In this fast, consuming all Tamasic food including meat and alcohol is considered prohibited from Dashami Tithi.
– One should not sweep the house on the day of Ekadashi because it leads to the death of all micro-organisms including ants.
– On this day, the fasting person should not speak much. Maintain control over your speech and do not use abusive words.
What to do on the day of Utpanna Ekadashi?
– On the day of Utpanna Ekadashi, worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Ekadashi duly.
– During the worship of Lord Vishnu, definitely include basil leaves in the offering. It is believed that without this Lord Vishnu does not accept food.
– Chant Lord Vishnu’s Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya mantra during the puja. Recite Vishnu Sahastranam.
– You can consume fruits like banana, grapes, mango and almonds, pistachios during the fast.
– Donate food, money etc. in any temple. Feed the poor and needy.
