Letter written to state governments

The Department of Telecommunications wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary of the State Governments on 8 April. DOT Secretary Neeraj Mittal has urged the state governments, citing the central government’s decision taken in 2019, that BSNL or MTNL service should be used in government departments, agency and PSU. These government companies are providing high service quality.

BSNL has recently started operating MTNL’s service. BSNL and MTNL have also started competition to other telecom companies. The cabinet secretary said in its letter that the central government uses BSNL and MTNL service in its offices. State governments should also use BSNL and MTNL service in their offices.

National security threat

According to TRAI’s latest data, Private Telecom has a 92 percent stake in the telecom sector at this time. The same, BSNL and MTNL have 8 percent market share. The Department of Telecommunications has also cited national security in its letter. BSNL and MTNL use all -indigenous technology equipment.
