Ratnakar Sahu, Additional Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Bhubaneswar, capital of Odisha, was suddenly attacked by a group of 6-7 people during the Grevens hearing on Monday. The incident occurred on Monday 30 June during a weekly complaint hearing of the corporation. BMC Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahu was hearing a complaint on Monday when the attackers entered his room and attacked him by holding the collar. The attackers dragged him out of the office and beat him up with a kick. This video is also going viral on social media.
What did Additional Commissioner say?
Ratnakar Sahu said, “When I was hearing a complaint at around 11.30 am, five to six people including BMC Councilor Jiban Raut entered my chamber. As soon as I entered the chamber, the councilor asked me if I had misbehaved with Jag Bhai. But when I refused, people came with him, he took out the metens and took me out of my office. And was trying to force me to his vehicle. “
BMC employees closed work, sitting on dharna
After this incident, the employees of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation stopped work and sat on a dharna in the office premises. At the same time, BJD activists protested against the beating of the officer and accused the BJP leaders of attacked. Police have so far arrested 3 people in this case and are investigating the incident.
Video viral on social media
The video of the incident captured by eyewitnesses shows that Ratnakar Sahu, an additional commissioner of BMC and senior officer of OS (Odisha Administrative Service), was attacked by a group of about 6-7 people. The attackers caught the collar of Sahu’s shirt and tried to take them out forcibly dragging them, which surprised the employees and the people present there. In the video, the attackers were seen using abusive language and Sahu was seen kicking with kicking.
OAS officials from today on collective leave
There has been a ruckus over the attack on Ratnakar Sahu. In protest against this attack, all the officials of the Odisha Administrative Service have announced to go on collective leave from today. The OAS Association said in a written statement, “Such an incident, in which a senior officer was attacked on duty, attacked the foundation of the administrative system. It is not only unprecedented but also very worrying.”
What is the demand of OAS officials?
The association said that this incident is not a single incident. For the last one year, a well-planned story of degrading government officials in the state is being prepared. This is a serious threat to the safety and respect of the officers. The OAS Association has demanded from the administration that the accused should be taken soon and strict action and concrete and strong arrangements should be made to protect the officers at the workplace.
Whatever happened in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation is a deep injury to the administrative system. Now it remains to be seen how fast and seriously the government takes action on this, so that such incidents do not happen again in future.
