Why do earthquakes occur?

The outer surface of the earth is divided into several pieces called tectonic plates. These plates continue to move very slowly. When these plates collide, move or move under each other, tension arises in the surface of the earth. When this stress increases more than a limit, that energy exits as a shock, causing earthquakes.
