New Delhi: The ongoing dispute between the Election Commission and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, deepened on Saturday. The Election Commission once again dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of vote theft in the Maharashtra assembly elections, calling it ‘baseless’. Also, the Commission also made a letter written to Rahul in June, which has not yet been replied. The Commission raised the question whether Rahul’s statements were just to make headlines in the media? The Election Commission has posted a post on the X on X, completely denying Rahul Gandhi’s claims.

EC wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi on 12 June

Election Commission Secretary Ashwani Kumar Mohal wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi on 12 June. The letter was in response to Rahul’s article published in a newspaper on June 7, in which he accused the Maharashtra Assembly Elections of vote theft in 2024. In the letter, the Commission said that the Congress party had also made similar complaints after the November 2024 elections, which the Commission had responded in detail on 24 December 2024. This answer is available on the Commission’s website. In the letter, the Commission made it clear that all elections are conducted in a fair manner as per the election laws, rules and instructions of the Commission passed by Parliament.

‘Rahul neither responded to the letter nor met’

EC wrote in its letter that the election process in Maharashtra included 1,00,186 booth level officer, 288 electoral registration officers, 139 General Observers, 41 Police Observer, 71 expenditure Observer and 288 Returning Officer. In addition, 1,08,026 booth level agents, including 28,421 agents of the Congress, monitored the process. The commission had told Rahul that if he has any other complaint, he can tell in writing or ask for time for a personal meeting. But the commission claims that Rahul neither responded to the letter nor made any effort to meet. The commission raised the question, ‘Was Rahul’s statements baseless, so not replied?’

Rahul Gandhi intensifies the Election Commission

Rahul Gandhi on Saturday intensified his attitude. Rae Bareli MP Rahul claimed that his party had ‘firm evidence’ of vote theft. He termed these evidences as ‘Atom Bomb’ and said that when they come out, there will be no place to hide with the Election Commission. Rahul made allegations of not only Maharashtra Assembly elections, but also of disturbances in the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections and recent Lok Sabha elections. Rahul also accused the commission of threatening. On Friday, the Commission rejected Rahul’s statements as ‘condemnable’ and said that Rahul tried to threaten the commission and its employees.

Election Commission adopted a very tough stand

Describing Rahul’s latest statements as ‘baseless’, the Election Commission said that if the Congress had any complaint, their candidates should have filed an election petition in the concerned court. The Commission also said that no formal complaint or letter came from Rahul. The Commission also emphasized in its letter that the election process is completely transparent and under the purview of law. The Commission again invited Rahul to give his complaints in writing or meet, so that all the things can be clear. Now the question is whether Rahul Gandhi will bring out his ‘firm evidence’? And if yes, will it really prove to be an ‘atom bomb’.
