The Enforcement Directorate i.e. ED has exposed the scam in admission in medical colleges. The ED has exposed a racket that used fake documents to get students admission in medical colleges under NRI quota. The most surprising revelation in the investigation has also been that private medical colleges have given about 18,000 admissions in MBBS syllabus to students using fake documents. This disclosure has been made in the investigation conducted with the help of the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Embassy.

What was found in the investigation?

Investigations conducted by the ED have revealed that private medical colleges had given money to agents to prepare documents such as the NRI embassy documents and fake genealogies. In most cases, agents and medical colleges used the same types of documents for many candidates. The ED has searched the premises of various private medical colleges in West Bengal and Odisha and their prominent persons, agents and other persons in this case.

Playing with rules

When the ED raided the premises, several fake NRI certificates and seals of notary officials working in the US have been recovered. Let us tell you that according to the rule, the fees of students taking admission in medical college from NRI quota have to be paid by any NRI relatives. However, the ED investigation has revealed that in most cases the fees were not paid by the NRI family members.

According to the Supreme Court guidelines, NRI relatives with only the first degree ‘and’ second degree ‘are eligible to become sponsors of NRI quota students. However, in most cases the fee has been paid by the student’s family. Due to this, the flow of foreign currency in India has failed, which is one of the main objectives of giving admission to NRI quota seats.
