Efforts to save Nimisha Priya intensified, Kerala CM wrote a letter to PM Modi

Thiruvananthapuram: Nurse Nimisha Priya, a resident of Kerala, has been sentenced to death in Yemen. Nimisha is accused of killing a Yemeni citizen. Yemen’s President Rashad Al-Ali has approved the death sentence given to Nimisha. Nimisha Priya will be hanged on 16 July. Efforts are being made to save Nimisha at all levels. In this sequence, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urging him to intervene immediately to save the life of a Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya.
Request to raise the case in front of Yemen
In his letter, the Chief Minister said that this matter is of ‘sympathy’. In this, he requested the Prime Minister to take up the matter before the officers of Yemen without any delay. He also mentioned the appeals made earlier including letters sent to the Central Government and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on February 6 and March 24, 2025.
Intervene to save Nimisha Priya’s life
The Chief Minister said in the letter, “In view of this matter is suitable for showing sympathy, I appeal to the Hon’ble Prime Minister to take up the matter and to intervene through the officials concerned to raise the matter and save Nimisha Priya’s life.”
Guilty in the murder of Yemen citizen
Priya, a resident of Kollangode in Palakkad district, was convicted in 2020 for killing a Yemeni person, who was her business partner. The incident took place in July 2017 and its final appeal was rejected by the Supreme Judicial Council of Yemen in November 2024. He is currently locked in the Central Jail in Sana and is feared to be hanged on Tuesday. The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition Congress have also called for immediate action from the Center.
