Increased unemployment in urban areas
According to CWS data, the country’s total unemployment rate for all age groups remained stable at 5.6 percent during May and June 2025, which is slightly higher than the 5.1 percent of April 2025. The unemployment rate for both women and men in June was 5.6 percent at the national level. Especially in women, this rate declined from 5.8 percent of May to 5.6 percent in June. However, there was a slight increase in unemployment between the youth (15–29 age groups), where the rate rose to 15.3 percent in June, compared to 15 percent in May. The unemployment rate in urban areas increased to 18.8 percent in June, which was 17.9 percent in May.
Women workers’ share in agriculture decreased
According to the report, the share of rural women workers in the agriculture sector declined marginally to 69.8 percent in June 2025, compared to 70.2 percent in May. This decline shows that women in rural areas are slowly turning to other areas other than agriculture. This report also underlines the labor population ratio (WPR), which reflects the ratio of individuals working in the total population.
Unemployment increased in urban men
The unemployment rate in urban men increased from 15.8% to 16.6%, while in rural men it declined from 14% to 13.8%. The ratio of the labor force participation rate (LFPR) means work or working persons declined to 54.2% in June 2025, which was 54.8% in May. This rate was 56.1% in rural areas. 50.4% in urban areas.
