esim fraud: Cyber criminals have now found a new way to fraud. People do not even get a clue and millions of rupees are removed from their account. After the SIM swap, the incidents of ESIM fraud are coming out. A similar incident has come to light in Mumbai, in which even after blocking ATM card, UPI etc. by the person, about Rs 4 lakh was removed from the account. Due to a small negligence, such a big fraud was carried out. Come, let’s know how this fraud happened and how should you avoid it?

What is Esim Fraud?

Like the physical SIM card, nowadays telecom companies issue ESIM i.e. digital SIM card on users’ request. In this, you do not have to put any SIM in the phone, but you have to install a software, which will work as a SIM card. Through e-sim, all those things will be done, which you do through physical SIM card. If cyber thugs issue ESIM of your physical SIM card, then they will have an access of your bank account, after which you can also have a big fraud.

The same happens in the incident in Mumbai. A person gets a call from an unknown number. The network disappears from the phone for 15 minutes. As long as the person is able to understand something, the money disappears from the account. By calling the bank and requests to block ATM cards, UPI etc., it is too late and about 4 lakh rupees are withdrawn from the account. However, the person gave this information in the cyber cell and it is under investigation.

How did the fraud?

The person receives a call from an unknown number in which a link is sent to him. The person accidentally clicked the link, which is permission to convert the SIM card into ESIM. The network of his phone then disappears as the SIM card changed. However, there is no incoming SMS in the phone for 24 hours in the SIM swap, but OTP can be obtained through calls. Cyber criminals used the account using this.

How to avoid

As it is clear that the main reason behind this big fraud is to receive calls from Unknown Number. If you want not to be with you, then you also ignore the calls coming from any unknown number. Also do not click on any URL message. Also, do not share your personal information with anyone. If you keep your information confidential, then the risk of fraud is reduced with you.
