Hyderabad, 16 October (Hindustan Reporter). Dr. Kotha Ushalakshmi, the country’s senior gynecologist and founder of Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation, died of a heart attack here today. He breathed his last at the age of 91.
Dr. Ushalakshmi received her graduation and PG degrees from Guntur Medical College. She was a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Nilofar Hospital for a long time. Dr. Ushalakshmi, a breast cancer survivor herself, founded the non-profit breast cancer charity ‘Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation’ in September 2007. The purpose of establishing the foundation was to accelerate the breast cancer screening program.
Dr. Ushalakshmi is married to Dr. PV Chalapathi Rao, a renowned surgeon and former president of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI). Dr. Rao passed away in November, 2020. Dr. Rahu Ram, heartbroken over the death of his mother Dr. Kotha Ushalakshmi, said in the statement, “The greatest legacy that anyone can leave behind is to have a positive impact on the lives of others. Her glorious life truly epitomizes this.” Dr. Ushalakshmi is survived by son Dr. Raghu Ram, daughter-in-law Dr. Vyjayanti and Sai and Krishna (grandchildren).
