• Taking an important step towards organizing and empowering the Makhana industry in Bihar, the state government has accelerated the process of formation of Makhana Board. Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Agriculture Minister Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha presided over an important meeting in this context, in which many senior officials and experts participated.
  • Makhana Board will become a catalyst of revenue and employment in Bihar
  • Mr. Vijay Kumar Sinha said in the meeting that the formation of Makhana Board will give widespread benefits to farmers, entrepreneurs and small businessmen. This board will also promote Makhana’s cultivation in non-traditional areas, which will give a new direction to the agro-based industry in the state.
  • 50% of the board budget will be used in this direction to provide financial assistance to various components associated with Makhana production and processing. This initiative will not only help in increasing the income of farmers, but will also create employment opportunities for thousands of people associated with the Makhana industry.
  • Makhana Board will help in the development of entire ecosystem of Makhana industry
  • The Minister said that the formation of Makhana Board will prove to be a milestone in the economic development of the state. The income of farmers will be increased by encouraging the Makhana based crop cycle. For this, training of advanced agricultural techniques and modern marketing methods will also be imparted.
  • The inclusion of Makhana in the minimum support price (MSP) basket is also being seriously considered. This will allow farmers to get a fair price for Makhana production and will ensure their economic security.
  • Special attention to quality and branding
  • Quality and certification are extremely important in today’s global trade scenario. Keeping this in mind, Mr. Sinha instructed to pay special attention to the organic production and branding of Makhana. This initiative will not only give Makhana in Bihar international identity but will also help in setting it as a premium product.
  • It will be combined with Ayurveda to further strengthen the Makhana processing industry. This will recognize the medicinal properties of Makhana globally and its market will be further wide.
