What is fatwa,

Fatwa is an Arabic word and is issued under Sharia law. In simple terms, there is a legal opinion or interpretation on a particular issue of fatwa Islamic law called Sharia, provided by a qualified Islamic scholar (Mufti). It is issued in response to a specific question asked by any Muslim person or community, which may be related to any religious, social, economic or personal matter. Fatwa is not a law that can be implemented, rather it is the opinion of an expert whose aim is to provide guidance according to Islamic principles.
Importance of fatwa in Islam

Fatway has deep importance in Islam. It helps Muslims find solutions to the challenges and dilemmas in their daily lives from an Islamic perspective. Since the Islamic law, called Sharia, is based on the Quran and Hadith (Prophet Muhammad’s statement and work), and these are ancient texts, so new problems of the modern era require their interpretation. Fatwa acts of this interpretation. It helps Muslims to distinguish between right and wrong and act according to Allah’s will.
Who can release fatwa,

Not everyone has the right to issue a fatwa. Only one ‘Mufti’ can release it. The Mufti is an Islamic scholar who has studied the Islamic law, Quran, Hadith and Fikh (Islamic jurisprudence) and has a deep understanding of them. Mufti should be recognized by a special institution called “Darul Ifta”, which is authorized to issue a fatwa.
Can Maulana release fatwa,

The question is often asked whether Maulana can issue a fatwa. The direct answer to this is – no, every Maulana cannot issue a fatwa. ‘Maulana’ is a common degree that is given to a person with Islamic education, but this does not mean that he is Mufti. A special and high -level study and training are required to become a Mufti. Only those Maulana can issue a fatwa who have achieved the status of Mufti. Generally, a Maulana can offer religious teachings, offer prayers, and give religious education, but issuing legal opinion (fatwa) does not come under their jurisdiction, unless they are Mufti.
