Female officer appointed for the first time in the top post of RPF, know who is Sonali Mishra

For the first time in the history of Railway Protection Force (RPF), a woman officer has been given the command of the highest position. Senior IPS officer Sonali Mishra has been appointed as the first Women’s Director General of Railway Protection Force (DG). Officials gave this information on Saturday.
Sonali Mishra, a 1993 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, will hold her retirement as Director General of RPF till October 31, 2026. According to an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel, the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Sonali Mishra to this post.
She will replace Director General Manoj Yadav, who is scheduled to retire on 31 July. Officials said Sonali Mishra will be the first female officer to lead RPF. RPF has been entrusted with the responsibility of duties including railway property and safety of passengers. Currently, Sonali Mishra is posted as Additional Director General (Selection) in Madhya Pradesh Police.
About Railway Protection Force
The RPF was formed by an Act of Parliament in 1957 to provide security to railway property. Later, in 1966, the force was empowered to investigate, arrest and prosecute criminals involved in illegal occupation of railway property. On September 20, 1985, it was given the status of “An armed force of the Sangh”.
Sonali Mishra’s career
Sonali Mishra has served in many important roles during her specific career. In July 2021, she was appointed as the first female commander to lead the Border Security Force (BSF) formation on the Indo-Pakistan border in Punjab. Sonal led the formation of force in the Kashmir Valley as the Inspector General (IG). He also led the BSF intelligence wing. He has also served as ADG in BSF. Sonali is awarded PPMDS (Presidential Police Medal for Special Service) and PMMS (Police Medal for Meritorious Service).
