Finance Minister Sitharaman reviews progress of planetarium in Mysore
-This will be the world’s first ’tilted LED dome’ planetarium
Mysore/New Delhi, 08 November (HS). Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday reviewed the progress of the planetarium funded by her Parliamentarian Development Fund. This will be the world’s first ’tilted LED dome’ planetarium being developed in Mysore, Karnataka.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman reviewed the progress of the state-of-the-art planetarium under construction at the Chamundi Hill campus of the University of Mysore, Karnataka, the Finance Ministry said in a statement issued on ‘X’ Post. According to the ministry, the Center for Cosmology Education and Research-Training (Cosmos) high-tech 15-meter LED dome with 8K resolution will be the world’s first ’tilted LED dome’ planetarium.
Sitharaman has allocated Rs 5 crore from her Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) for the Cosmology Education and Research-Training Center (Cosmos Mysore) project. He laid the foundation stone of this project in March 2022. The project, with an estimated budget of around Rs 91 crore, is being implemented by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA). For this, it has also entered into an MoU with Mysore University.
This project is being implemented under the guidance of Principal Scientific Advisor. The completion of this planetarium center is expected to provide access to knowledge to more than 200 colleges, schools and the general public. This planetarium is expected to be ready in the next 10 months. Regular shows will start in the last quarter of the next financial year. This planetarium developed in Mysore will be the world’s first ’tilted LED dome’ planetarium.
