Electricity bill of Rs 311 crore not paid

According to an information, 57 municipal corporations of Gujarat have not paid electricity bills worth Rs 311 crore. Due to this, due to switching off of street lights in these municipal corporations, the roads can get plunged into darkness at any time. Municipalities are facing financial crisis due to decline in revenue. Due to the Municipal Corporation system not being strict in collecting various taxes including water, the income of the administration is decreasing. At the same time, in view of the elections, the public representatives stop for strict collection. Due to all these reasons the municipality has no source of earning.
