First loyalty for the country, not for party: Tharoor

Congress leader and MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor said that the first loyalty of any leader should be towards the country, not towards the party. Tharoor was speaking at an event on ‘peace, harmony and national development’ in Kochi on Saturday.

Tharoor said that parties are just one way, there are means to improve the country. If the country is not left, then what is the use of parties? Therefore, when there is a question of security of the country, then all parties should work together. He said-

Tharoor recently praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy and supported the government and army on Operation Sindoor. After this, there was resentment about his statement in the Congress party.

July 10: Tharoor described Emergency as a black chapter

On July 10, Shashi Tharoor wrote an article published in the Malayalam language newspaper ‘Deepika’ that Emergency should not only be remembered as a black chapter of Indian history, but it is necessary to take lessons from it. He described the sterilization campaign as an arbitrary and cruel decision.

He wrote that the steps taken for discipline and arrangement sometimes turn into such cruelty, which cannot be called appropriate in any way.

50 years ago on 25 June 1975, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed an emergency in the country. It was in force till March 21, 1977. During this time the central government had taken many strict decisions.
