Flood in Pakistan caused havoc

In the last 24 hours in Pakistan’s Punjab province, at least 30 people died due to the severe floods and the authorities were forced to break the embankments by putting explosives to protect the cities from disaster. The torrential rains in the major cities of Punjab province since Saturday morning have increased the difficulties of people, especially the residents of flood affected areas. Officials have predicted heavy rains till September 2, which is expected to worsen the situation. Pakistan’s most populous province Punjab has been in the grip of severe floods for almost a week and at least 1,700 villages in the entire province including Kartarpur are submerged. Kartarpur has special significance for Sikhs.

30 people died due to floods in 24 hours

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), about 842 people have died in the monsoon -related incidents since the onset of monsoon and floods in the country on 26 June. Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said in a statement on Saturday that at least 30 people died due to floods in the province during the last 24 hours. Maryam said, “About 1.5 million people in Punjab became homeless due to floods and in the last two-three days, about five lakh people trapped in flood waters were saved to safe places.”

2000 villages are submerged

He said that about 2,000 villages were submerged due to floods and crops in thousands of acres were also ruined. The authorities had to break the embankments by putting explosives in many places in the province to protect the cities from the disaster due to the deteriorating flood situation. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), at least seven embankments were broken using explosives in various areas including Mandi Bahauddin, Chiniot and Zhang in the province. According to the minister, about 1,169 villages from the Chenab River, 462 villages from Ravi river and 391 villages have been affected by the floods in the Sutlej river. He informed that 351 relief and medical camps are operated in the entire province to help and take care of the affected people.
