Lahore: Pakistan’s Punjab Police has arrested Shahrej Khan, nephew of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Police said Shahrej has been arrested in cases related to riots of May 9, 2023. Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) claimed in his statement on Thursday that it was kidnapped. The police have denied that Shahrej was kidnapped.

Wanted in this case

DIG (Investigation) Zeeshan Raza said, “Shahrej Khan has been arrested by the Punjab Police. He was wanted in the May 9 riots and will be produced in court. There will be no softness with anyone involved in anti -national activities.” Significantly, Imran Khan’s party PTI alleged that Shahrej was abducted from his house. Senior party leader Zulfi Bukhari said in a statement late at night, “Some people dressed in ordinary clothes entered the house of Imran Khan’s sister Alima Khan, beaten the staff and took away Shahrej, while they have nothing to do with politics. It is a culmination of cowardice and we strongly condemn it.”

What PTI alleged

The statement issued by PTI said, “Shahrej Khan, who is an international athlete. He was abducted from his bedroom. He was tortured in front of his two young children and even servants were treated inhumanly. Imran Khan’s sister Alima Khan has long been criticizing the Pakistani military establishment. Imran is in jail for 2 years
