Former RBI Governor Urjit Patel appointed Executive Director of IMF
Urjit Patel News: Former Reserve Bank of India, former Governor Urjit Patel has been appointed as the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This information is given in an order of the Ministry of Personnel. Appointment in IMF for a period of 3 years: He resigned from the post before the completion of his term citing personal reasons. His term ended on 10 December 2018, 1 day after his resignation. The order issued on Thursday, August 28, states that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of economist and former RBI Governor Patel to the post of Executive Director of International Monetary Fund for a period of 3 years.Also Read: RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said- RBI’s eye on growth amid uncertainty
Patel was the first governor of the central bank to quit the post before the completion of his term since 1990. Earlier he worked in the International Monetary Fund. He has also been the Deputy Governor of RBI. He came on deputation from the IMF to the central bank during 1996–1997 and at that time he advised on the development of the loan market, improvement in banking sector, improvement in pension fund and development of foreign exchange market. Patel was an advisor in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Economic Affairs) from 1998 to 2001. He has also held other positions in public and private sectors.
