New Delhi: The Friends cast, including Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, say they all are “utterly devasted” by the “unfathomable” death of their co-star Matthew Perry. Perry passed away at the age of 54 on Saturday at his Pacific Palisades home here. He was found unresponsive in his hot tub and was believed to have drowned. No official cause or contributing factors to his death have been established yet.

“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss,” the cast said in a joint statement to People magazine. “In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.” All five actors along with Perry appeared in all 10 seasons of the popular sitcom.

Perry played the socially awkward but amiable Chandler Bing who used sarcasm to get by in life, alongside Cox’s Monica Geller, Aniston’s Rachel Green, Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay, LeBlanc’s Joey Tribbiani and Schwimmer’s Ross Geller.
Molly Hurwitz, Perry’s former fiancee and literary manager, also shared a note on Instagram in his memory and described him as someone who had “a profound impact” on her. “He would love that the world is talking about how talented he was. And he really was very talented…” she wrote.
Hurwitz, 32, said she knew the late actor in a different way.

“While I loved him deeper than I could comprehend, he was complicated, and he caused pain like I’d never known. No one in my adult life has had a more profound impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I have tremendous gratitude for that, for everything I learned from our relationship.” She also recalled rewatching “Friends” together with Perry as the reunion of the show was approaching in 2021.

“‘F***, I was so good!!!…See what I did there???’ We rewound and studied scenes. Our respect and appreciation of humor is something that connected us. Being with him as he rediscovered his brilliance was magical… Matty, I feel relief that you are at peace,” she added. “I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Al Anon (support groups for people who have been impacted by another person’s alcoholism),” Hurwitz continued, referencing Perry’s struggle with substance abuse. “An invaluable resource for those who love someone struggling with this destructive disease.” Actor Salma Hayek, who worked with Perry in the 1997 rom-com film “Fools Rush In”, said it has taken her a couple of days to process the profound sadness of his demise.

“There is a special bond that happens when you share dreams with someone, and together you work towards them. I was very moved last year when Matthew shared on his Instagram stories how much he loved ‘Fools Rush In,’ and how he thought that that film we did together was probably his best movie,” Hayek said in an Instagram post. “My friend, you are gone much too soon, but I will continue to cherish your silliness, your perseverance, and your lovely heart. Farewell, sweet Matthew, we will never forget you,” she added.
