5) Navjot Singh Sidhu – Murder Charge
The former cricketer was accused of culpable homicide in a road rage case. The victim was Gurnam Singh, a resident of Patiala, who was allegedly beaten by Navjot Sidhu in October 1998. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.
However, in 1999, Sidhu was acquitted by the court. Seven years later, the allegations came out once again and this time the court found him guilty and sentenced him to 3 years in jail. Sidhu appealed for the verdict and the Supreme Court stayed his sentence but granted him bail.
4) Amit Mishra- Woman assaulted
This leg -spinner of Team India was arrested by the Bengaluru police on charges of assaulting a woman in the hotel room. He arrived at the hotel before the Indian series against South Africa in 2015. Amit Mishra was booked under sections 354 and 328 of the Indian Penal Code.
Mishra was questioned for three hours. He was released on bail after questioning. The victim was actually a cricketer’s friend for a long time.
3) Vinod Kambli – Allegations of assault
Kambli is a childhood friend of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. He is famous for shaking a 664 -run partnership with Tendulkar in a school match. He had a small career but had the record for the highest average for an Indian batsman.
In August 2015, Kambli and his wife were booked for assaulting their maid. She was working for the couple for almost two years. When he asked for salary, the cricketer and his wife abused him. The maid went to the police, accusing him of assaulting and being wrongly hostage for three days. An FIR was lodged by the police and a case under sections 342, 34, 506 and 504 of the IPC was registered against Kambli.
2) Suresh Raina – Accused of breaking protocol
The top-order batsman of Chennai Super Kings was found guilty of violating the Kovid-19 protocol in December 2020. Raina was at a party at the Dragonfly Club in Mumbai when the police raided the place. He was arrested with 34 people, including 7 employees.
The raid was conducted when the club went against the Kovid criteria. Singer Guru Randhawa was also arrested, but Suresh Raina and were released on bail. He was booked under sections 188, 269, and 34. Raina did not participate in the 2020 IPL, citing issues of stay in the hotel.
