Material
For stuffing (filling):
Dry Coconut (Grapped): 1 Cup
Jaggery or sugar: 1/2 cup
Cardamom Powder: 1/2 teaspoon
Dried dry fruits (cashews, almonds, raisins): 2 tablespoons
Poppy: 1 teaspoon
For upper layer (cover):
Rava/ Suzy: 1 Cup
Ghee: 2 tablespoons
Water: 1 cup
Salt: 1 pinch
To fry:
Oil or ghee
Recipe
Prepare stuffing: Heat a little ghee in a pan. Fry the dry fruits and poppy seeds lightly. Now add grated coconut and jaggery (or sugar) in the same pan and cook on low flame. When the jaggery melts and the mixture becomes slightly thick, then mix roasted fruits and cardamom powder and remove it from the heat.
Prepare the cover: Boil water, 2 teaspoons of ghee and salt in another pan. When the water starts boiling, add rava (semolina) to it and keep stirring continuously so that the lumps do not form. Cook the mixture until it becomes thick and becomes like a dough. Turn off the gas and allow the mixture to cool.
Make modak:
When cooled, lubricate the dow of this rava thoroughly.
Now take small doughs from this door. Put it on the palm and give the shape of the bowl and fill the mixture of stuffing in the middle.
Fold the edges in the shape of the modak and close it from the top. You can also use modak -making molds.
Fry modak: Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Keep the heat medium. Put modak in hot oil and fry till it becomes golden and crisp.
Your delicious rava modak is ready. Serve them as offerings by offering them to Lord Ganesha.
