‘Get the government bungalow evacuated from former CJI Chandrachud soon’
Former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud is more than the deadline in his government bungalow (5, Krishna Menon Marg). Now the Supreme Court Administration has written a letter to the central government. It said that his bungalow should be evacuated soon from the former CJI, so that we can include it in the court housing pool.
The Supreme Court has 33 judges including Chief Justice BR Gavai. The Supreme Court has a sectionum number of judges 34. Four judges of the apex court have not yet received a government bungalow.
According to NDTV, 3 judges are living in the Supreme Court transit apartments while one judge is living in the State Guest House. The apex court has demanded to return 5, Krishna Menon Marg Bungalow as soon as possible.
The Supreme Court Administration wrote a letter to the Union Housing and Ministry of Urban Affairs on 1 July. It said that 5 Krishna Menon Marg is under the possession of former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. Permission to keep them near the bungalow is also over on 31 May 2025. Empty it without delay.
Former CJI said- daughters need a house with special facilities
About not being able to vacate the bungalow, former CJI Chandrachud said, ‘This happened due to personal reasons. The Supreme Court Administration was informed about this.
The former CJI also told, ‘I had informed Sanjeev Khanna, who was the Chief Justice on 28 April, in writing that I am looking for a suitable house. Let me allow me in this bungalow till June 30, but no response was received.
Chandrachud also said that he had also spoken to Chief Justice BR Gawai and assured him that he would leave the bungalow as soon as possible.
Chandrachud wrote a letter to Sanjeev Khanna
The official letter of the Supreme Court states- Former CJI Chandrachud then wrote to CJI, Sanjeev Khanna, a month after retirement, it would be more convenient for me to allow me to stay in the existing bungalow 5, Krishna Menon Marg till 30 April 2025.
Former CJI Sanjeev Khanna agreed to this. Former CJI Chandrachud got permission to stay in Krishna Menon Marg Bungalow from 11 December to 30 April 2025. For this, former CJI Chandrachud had to pay a license fee of Rs 5430 every month.
