Good news! Electricity rates in Maharashtra will be 10% in the first year and 26% in 5 years will be reduced
People are going to get relief from electricity rates in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has approved the proposal to reduce electricity rates for the next five years in all consumer category-residential, industrial and commercial. According to ANI news, electricity rates in Maharashtra will be cut by 10% in the first year and 26% in 5 years. The ratio of users less than 100 units in the state is 70%. Also, work has started on a war footing on Chief Minister Solar Agricultural Vahini Yojana 2.0.
Relief for more than 45 lakh farmers and urban consumers
According to the news, this is the first time in the history of the state that electricity rates will continue to decrease for so long. This cut will provide great financial relief to more than 45 lakh farmers and urban consumers. Residential consumers using smart meters will get an additional 10% time-off-day discount. Under this new policy, homes that produce solar energy will also be encouraged. Under the Chief Minister’s Solar Agricultural Feeder Scheme 2.0, the government aims to provide electricity to agricultural pumps during the day by using decentralized solar energy with a capacity of 16,000 MW by December 2026. This step will supply electricity on average only ₹ 3 per unit.
Hope to save Rs 66,000 crore
This decision of the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission came after 2030 plans to get 31,000 MW of 45,000 MW from Akshaya sources. With this change, utility is expected to save Rs 66,000 crore in power purchase costs in five years, which will make it possible to cut the proposed rates. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that instead of the petition to increase rates for the first time, Mahavitaran has filed a petition to cut tariffs. This step will benefit 70% of consumers who use less than the monthly 100 units of electricity. The government has again confirmed its commitment to provide cheap, high quality electricity, as Maharashtra is working towards becoming a 1 -trillion $.
