According to the report, at the app store of these two companies, there is an exercise to get developers from their own payment system. For in-app purchases on Google and Apple’s app store, users get the option to use Google or Apple’s payment system, due to which developers have to pay up to 30 percent of every purchase commission to Apple or Google. Because of this, these two companies earns hard earned. After the intervention of the CMA, the app developers may increase in earnings and commission is likely to decrease.
Preparation of new policy
CMA wants Apple and Google to make the app review system more transparent for their app store. It has been complained about Apple that the company promotes its service using the conferenial data of the app review system. If this allegation is true, Apple is getting an advantage through it. CMA can bring a new policy with this. After this, users will get the option to use Apple or Google Pay Wallet for the purchase made from the app store.
CMA Chief Executive Sarah Cardel says that Apple and Google have 90 to 100 percent stake in the mobile devices in the UK. The earnings through apps in the UK have a major contributor to the economy. It has 4 lakh jobs based on it and also has a 1.5 percent stake of total GDP.
However, Apple has opposed the new proposed rule of CMA. In its cleanliness, the company said that this change may threaten user privacy. Private information of app store users can be accessed by third party. The CMA is currently taking feedback from experts in this case. Regulatory can implement this rule from next year.
