Google introduced Google Vids, a new AI-powered video-making tool a few months ago. The company has now started rolling it out for select Google Workspace users. Google Vids enables users to create workplace and marketing videos using Google’s Gemini AI model, which simplifies video creation through file input from Google Drive and user-provided details.

With Google Vids, users can either create a video from scratch or start from a pre-made template. The tool includes a “Help Me Create” feature where Gemini can suggest scripts, allowing for a quick first draft. Users are able to personalize their videos by including their own photos, videos, or audio files directly within Google Vids, giving users flexibility beyond the initial templates.

The platform also supports a virtual recording studio where users can record their own videos or audio tracks. This allows creators to add voice overs or record individual video content directly into their projects.

How to use it

Google Vids acts as a slideshow maker, compiling images, video snippets, and audio based on selected files or input details. This setup differs from other AI video tools like Runway’s Gen-2 and OpenAI’s Sora, which generate more complex, movie-like videos. Instead, Google Vids uses files and text-based instructions to produce visually structured presentations suitable for business and marketing needs.

As part of Google Workspace, Google Vids integrates real-time collaboration capabilities, allowing team members to work together on video projects. Multiple contributors can edit and provide input to the same video, enhancing teamwork for business-focused video creation.

Availability

Google Vids is available to users with Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Essentials, Enterprise Essentials, and Enterprise Essentials Plus subscriptions under Google Workspace. Google initially announced the feature in April, aligning it with the release of its Gemini AI model.
