Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s film ‘The Bengal Files’ is already in a lot of controversies before its release. The recent film trailer launch event in Kolkata also created a lot of ruckus. At the same time, Gopal Mukherjee’s grandson Shantanu Makhrjen has lodged an FIR against Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri.
Gopal Mukherjee was a prominent person to prevent the safety and violence of Hindus during the 1946 Bengal riots. Gopal Mukherjee’s family objected after watching the trailer of the film. The family has alleged that his image in the film is incorrectly shown.
Actually, the character of Gopal Mukherjee was mentioned in the trailer of the film in this way- ‘Ek Tha Tacha Gopal Patha’. Shantanu Mukherjee says that his grandfather was not a butcher by profession, but was the head of a wrestler and Anushilan Samiti. He had an important role in stopping the 1946 riots.
Shantanu said, my grandfather was a freedom fighter, protected the society and Netaji was inspired by Subhash Chandra Bose’s ideology. He worked with many famous freedom fighters. It is historically wrong and extremely derogatory to call him ‘butcher’ or ‘Patha’.
He said, he was called ‘Patha’, which means goat. This name was also given to him to degrade. But the reality is that he was the protector of the Hindus of Bengal. Vivek Agnihotri did not even contact us on this subject and incorrectly introduced our grandfather’s image without doing research.
Shantanu Mukherjee has sent a notice against Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and sent a notice to him. The notice states that Vivek apologizes to Gopal Mukherjee for his wrong portrayal. It is not only wrong to present the wrong image of Gopal Mukherjee, but it will also hurt the family and the community.
