Goswami tulsidas biography: 31 July 2025, Thursday is the birth anniversary of Goswami Tulsidas ji, the great poet of Hindi literature, saint and the chief of Rambhakti Branch, Goswami Tulsidas ji. Every year his birth anniversary is celebrated on the seventh date of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. Life introduction of Goswami Tulsidas:
• Birth: Goswami Tulsidas was born on the seventh date of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month in Samvat 1589 V. (AD 1532). There are differences about his birthplace, but most scholars consider Rajapur (Chitrakoot) or Soron (Kasganj) of Uttar Pradesh as his birthplace.
• Childhood Name: He did not cry at the time of birth, but the word ‘Ram’ came out of his face, hence his name became Rambola.
• Parents: His father’s name was Atmaram Dubey who was a Sarauparin Brahmin and mother’s name was Hulsi.
• Early life: It is said that his parents died after birth and he had to suffer a lot in his early life. He was raised by his maid Chunia, but he too soon passed away.
• Guru Diksha: He was made his disciple by Narharidas (Narhariyanand) and recited Ramakatha. Later he went to Kashi from the rest of Sanatan, where he studied Veda, Vedang, astrology and other scriptures.
• Marriage and quietness: He was married to a learned girl named Ratnavali. It is said that once Ratnavali went to her maternal home due to excessive attachment to Ratnavali, Tulsidas followed him.
On this, Ratnavali reprimanded him,
‘Laj aayi tumra aayi aayeu saath.
Dhik Dhik said to such love, I should say Nath.
The bone scorching body, tame, such love.
Taisi who in Shri Ram, Hoti Na Tau Bhavabhiti.
With this rebuke, Tulsidas ji became disinterested and he dedicated his life to Ram Bhakti.
• Major compositions:
– Ramcharitmanas: This is his most famous and classic composition, which describes the life character of Lord Rama in Awadhi language.
– Hanuman Chalisa: This is also considered to be his own creation, which is written in the praise of Hanuman ji.
– Vinay Patrika: It has prayers made from Lord Rama and other deities.
– Kavitavali, Gitavali, Dohawali, Krishna Geetavali, Parvati Mangal, Janki Mangal, Ramlalanhchhu etc. are his other important compositions.
• Death: Goswami Tulsidas died at the Asi Ghat of Kashi in Samvat 1680 V. (AD 1623).
