‘Government housing will vacate time after retirement’, why did CJI BR Gavai say this?

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.K. R. Gawai said on Thursday that due to lack of time, he would not be able to find suitable housing until he retires in November, but under the rules, it is sure to vacate his government house within the stipulated time. In an event organized by the Supreme Court Advocates on Records Association (SCAORA), the CJI called him a “warm person” who dedicated his career to the judiciary.

What else did CJI Gawai say?

Justice Dhulia is scheduled to retire on 9 August. Addressing a gathering of senior lawyers and their family members, besides a gathering of judges of the apex court and the High Court, CJI said that Justice Dhulia would vacate his government residence a day after his retirement. The CJI said, “We will always remember their contribution to the judiciary. After retirement, they will live in Delhi and will be one of the judges who will immediately vacate their residence. The next day of retirement.”

Chandrachud had vacated government bungalow late

Interestingly, a month ago, the Supreme Court administration took a letter to the Central Government asking him to vacate the official residence of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) located on Krishna Menon Marg in Delhi. It was mentioned in the letter that former CJI D.Y. Chandrachud was staying in that house for longer than the scheduled deadline. However, in early August, Justice Chandrachud vacated the official residence of CJI.

‘There will be no time to find a suitable house, but …’

Referring to the status of his and his Justice Dhulia, CJI Gawai said, “In fact, it is rare. I wish I too would have been in a position to do so by November 24. I would not get time to find a suitable house, but I assure you that I will go from there before whatever time will be received according to the rules, but Justice Dhulia has made a very good example.
