Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) Anant Nageswaran said this on Saturday. The US has implemented a huge tariff of 50 percent on Indian goods coming from August 27. Nagswaran highlighted that the crisis, whether small or big, often acts as a catalyst. With this, all sections of social system including government, private sector and family are active to take necessary action.
Negotiations have been going on for the last 3-4 days
Anant Nagswaran said that after the tariff is implemented, “talk with many exports and representative bodies, private sector export promotion agencies and ministries has been going on for the last three-four days.” Nagaswaran while addressing a video conference of ICC through a video conference said that different ministries and finance ministry are working for additional time to prepare a strategy. He said that the main goal of this exercise is to provide financial assistance to the affected export areas and units as well as other facilities. This help will help them to face the current crisis and recover with it firmly. The Chief Economic Advisor said that he is not in a position to give more information about the government’s plan.
50 percent tariffs applied to India
The US President announced a 25 percent tariff on India at the end of July. Along with this, he had asked for a separate fine on India to buy crude oil from Russia. Later, Trump announced an additional tariff on India as a fine due to purchasing crude oil from Russia. 25 percent of tariffs on India came into effect from August 7. Whereas due to buying oil from Russia, 25 percent additional tariff came into force from August 27. With this, Indian exports have now started 50 percent of tariffs.
