Deepfake: To combat deepfake videos, the government is getting ready to introduce regulations. Information on this was provided by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav during a press conference today, November 23. “Deepfakes have emerged as a new threat to democracy,” he declared. According to the Union Minister, we have scheduled a meeting with all of the social media platforms for today. Everyone was in agreement after a discussion about the dangers of deepfakes and how serious they are, as they have become a major social threat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Concerns

On November 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also voiced his concerns regarding deepfakes. It was mentioned that I was seen singing a Garba song in one of the many videos that are available online. “A new regulation on deepfakes is needed, and action will be taken immediately,” stated Ashwini Vaishnav. In order to expedite the process of rescuing society and social institutions, efforts will be made to draft regulations in the coming weeks.

He said- We will have to work together on 4 things.

  • First- How to stop deepfakes before they are posted
  • Second – How to stop deepfake videos from going viral
  • Third – How to improve reporting mechanisms
  • Fourth- Work together to increase awareness

Accountability of Hosting Platforms

According to Vaishnav, the platform that hosts deepfakes and their creators will be held accountable. He explained that new laws, new regulations, or changes to current regulations can all bring about regulation.

Prime Minister Modi’s Concerns

“This video has been made with the power of AI, but it is a matter of concern,” Prime Minister Modi had stated regarding his deepfake video. People’s feelings are wounded by little things in a diverse society. There, it might cause problems. I once said to AI proponents that their technology is like a warning label on a cigarette. In a similar vein, I suggested that whoever uses it should be warned that it is composed of deepfake.

Viral Bollywood Deepfake

On social media recently, a deepfake video featuring Bollywood actresses Rashmika Mandanna and Kajol went viral. Rashmika’s face was substituted for the face of a girl called Zara Patel. Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake video surprised everyone, including Amitabh Bachchan and Rashmika Mandanna herself.

Digital Age Challenges

In the current digital age, the internet is frequently used to disseminate false information and news to the public. There are other videos distributed that are similar. We refer to this as deepfake. It is quite challenging to tell what is real from fake in this. This uses machine learning software and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. These are used to create a converted copy of media files, including audio, video, and photo files, that exactly resembles the original. To put it simply, deepfake is a sophisticated variation on morph video.
