Beware of scam international calls

TRAI has implemented a new policy to curb fake calls and SMS last year. Under the new policy, fake calls and messages are being blocked at network level. However, despite all these efforts of the government, cyber criminals are implicating people in their nets through fake calls and messages. The telecom regulator had asked telecom operators to implement the DLT system to improve the quality of service. Many telecom operators are using AI based technology to block fake calls and messages on the number of users. Airtel released the data recently, stating that crores of calls are being blocked every month.

After the new policy is implemented, scammers are adopting new ways to trap people in their nets. Hackers are preparing to trap people in their nets through VOIP i.e. internet calls. The government has asked to beware of calls coming from VOIP and international number through its cybercrime awareness portal. If you also get such a call, then you need to be cautious. Also, you can also report such calls and messages through government website Chakshu portal or app.

Scam via voip call

According to Thailand’s Telecom Regulatory Body NBTC, VOIP calls especially begin at +697 or +698. These calls made through voice -over internet protocol are not easily traced, due to which scammers use it indiscriminately. Hackers make VOIP calls using VPN i.e. virtual private network, due to which their tradition is eliminated.

If you also have a call coming from the international number +697 or +698, then you should ignore such a call. Such calls are made for online scams or marketing. You can block these numbers.

If you have accidentally picked up the phone, then avoid sharing any personal information.

Many times the scammer will call itself an officer of government agency, bank etc. In such a situation, you should ask for a call back number from them and say that you will call yourself. If they refuse to give the call back number, then you should understand that a scammer has made this call.

Report on chakshu

The Central Government has launched the CHAKSHU portal on the communication partner website to report fake calls and messages. Last year, the government has also launched its app, so that users are able to report scam calls and messages. You can report such fake calls and messages by visiting this government portal. For this, you have to visit Chakshu’s website and report the number while following the instruction given on the screen.
