Agartala: Tipra Motha Party (TMP) MLA Philip Riang on Tuesday filed a complaint with the Tripura police, accusing the son of Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Verma and three others of threatening to kill him and his family members. TMP is an ally of the ruling BJP in Tripura, while Jishnu Dev Verma has been the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.

What is the whole matter?

In his complaint, Riang claimed that the incident occurred inside the ‘MLA Hostel’ in the Khajur Bagan area of western Tripura on Monday night, which is ‘part of a deep conspiracy’. The TMP MLA lodged ‘New Capital Complex (NCC) police station in his written complaint, “I was talking with my family members … Then three persons came near the stairs of my quarters and stopped me incorrectly and started interfering in our family discussion.”

Threatened to cut throat

Riang alleged that when he asked him to leave, “he became more aggressive and took me on the target and started speaking violent and derogatory words, even spoke of cutting my throat.” He alleged that three people, including Pathik Dev Verma, son of the Governor of Telangana, came out of the quarters of BJP MLA Pramod Riang. The TMP MLA claimed that he said he would bring 400 to 500 BJP workers to kill me and my family members. Riang said in the complaint that he saved his life in the residence of TMP MLA Biswajit Kali ‘. He said that after the threat, he and his family members felt insecure.

TMP is BJP’s ally

Riang said, “I have named two people including Pathik Dev Verma in my complaint. I could not identify the remaining two people. “Asked if he wants a compromise outside the legal system because TMP is a component of the BJP -led coalition government, he said that the officer in charge of the police station has assured him that the police will take action according to the law. Kanchanpur MLA Riang said, “I will move one step ahead.”

What did the DGP say?

Earlier in the day, DGP Anurag Dhankhar had told that there was a debate between MLA and three unidentified people in ‘MLA Hostel’ on Monday night. The DGP said, “The police has started an investigation to identify those who threatened the MLA. Usually only guests are allowed to enter ‘hostels’. We are investigating the matter seriously. ”

Delegation of TMP MLAs meet CM

Expressing concern over the incident, a delegation of TMP MLAs met Chief Minister Manik Saha in his office and urged to ensure the safety of MLAs in ‘MLA Hostel’. The BJP has not given any response to this allegation yet. TMP, the main opposition party of Tripura, joined the BJP -led government before the Lok Sabha elections in March last year. The party has 13 members in the assembly. (With language inputs)
