In an interview, he told, ‘I started working at the age of 10. I used to work for the seller of roasted gram near a liquor shop. Used to walk home with the same money. Used to go to school in the morning, but could not feel like studying. Finally had to leave school after seventh grade. Johnny started selling pens on the streets of Mumbai to run the house. He used to imitate famous film stars to attract customers, this was the first glimpse of the artist inside them. After this, he got a job in Hindustan Unilever, where he used to mimic his colleagues and make everyone laugh. Along with this, he also started participating in small stage shows.
First big chance
In one of these stage shows, actor Sunil Dutt saw Johnny performing. Impressed by his talent, Dutt Saheb offered him a role in his film Dard Ka Rishta. Earlier, Johnny worked in a less popular film called Hum Qurban on Tum, which did not work much. But working with Sunil Dutt proved to be his career turning point. After this, the line of films started and Johnny Lever gradually became Bollywood’s favorite comedian. He not only mastered humor, but also left his deep impression in emotional scenes.
