Why is it called Balaram Jayanti: The day of Halashthi is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna’s elder brother Balaram Ji (Baldau). Balaram ji was born on this date.
• Balaram ji’s weapon ‘plow’: The main weapon of Lord Balarama was ‘plow’ (plow), due to which he was also called ‘Haladhar’. For this reason, his birth anniversary is known as Halashti.
• God of farmers: Lord Balarama is also considered the god of agriculture. In his honor, grains or vegetables plowed with plow are not consumed on this day. People observing fast worship near the pond and consume buffalo milk, ghee and makhane.
• Long life of children: This fast mainly keeps mothers for the long life, happiness, prosperity and good health of their children. It is believed that Balaram ji protects children by fasting and worshiping on this day.
