According to scientists, HD 20794 D completes a orbit of its star in 647 days. The most important feature of this planet is that it is located in the ‘Habitable Zone’ of its star. The habitable zone is the area around any star, where the temperature is so favorable that water can be present in liquid form on the surface of the planet. It is well known that where there is water, the chances of life flourishing also become strong.
HD 20794 study
Spain’s astronomy has confirmed this important discovery by astronomy de Canarias (IAC) and Universidad de La Laguna (ULL). Scientists had been studying a star called HD 20794 for many years. This star is slightly smaller than our Sun and even before that two other ‘super mean’ planets have been discovered around this star.
The circumambulation of the star completes in 647 days
The mass of HD 20794 D is about six times more than the Earth. Its orbit is slightly larger than the planet Mars of our solar system, as it completes its star or revolving in 647 days, which is only 40 days less than the time of Mars’s sun. The distance of this planet from its star and its position in the habitable zone makes it a possible ideal place for life, as the temperature and other conditions here may be favorable to keep the water on the surface of the planet in a liquid state.
This discovery is the result of two decades of research and its findings are published in the prestigious astronomy magazine Astronomy and Astrophysics. Scientists believe that this discovery will not only provide us important information in search of other planets like Earth, but will also help us to understand the atmosphere of these planets further.
