Hasina, a top of Tawaif’s courtyard, the secret on Bollywood, both husband and son are superstars
Nargis Dutt.
It is not possible to talk about Hindustani cinema and Nargis Dutt’s name does not come. She was not just an actress, but an era, a woman who lived acting and put life as an example on screen. You will be surprised to know that Nargis was just 20 years old when she played a 70 -year -old old mother in Mehboob Khan’s iconic film ‘Mother India’. This was the same film in which he played the role of the mother of Sunil Dutt and Rajendra Kumar, who was shown at the age of him. Interestingly, Sunil Dutt later became his spouse.
‘Mother India’ became identity
Nargis got such a place from this film that very few actors are destined. This character established her as a sensitive, strong and self -filled woman. He once said, “I never thought that this character would become my identity.” Although he did female-centric films like ‘Lajwanti’, ‘Raat Aur Din’, but wherever he had to go, people used to give him respect by calling him ‘Mother India’.
What was the reason for Nargis coming to films?
Nargis’s arrival in films was not with the desire of glamor or stardom, but with the compulsion to repay the debt of her mother. His mother Jaddanbai started a production house in 1935 and made the first film ‘Talaash-e-Haq’, in which the little Nargis also acted. But due to continuous losses and debt, the family’s condition deteriorated. In such a situation, Nargis left her studies and decided to act, just like a daughter, to help her mother.

Who was Nargis’s mother?
Nargis’s real name was Fatima Rashid and she was born to the house of Jaddanbai, the first female musician and filmmaker in India. Jaddanbai was a famous Tawaif of Banaras, but her Kotha was not the base of the body trade, there were only thumri, ghazals and music. Nani Dalipabai of Nargis was also a famous singer and artist of her era. It would not be wrong to say that Nargis had inherited art. Nargis started a career as a child artist from her mother’s film ‘Talaash-e-Haq’ at just 6 years old. By the age of 12, he played small roles in many films and gradually made his place.
Nargis’ magic with Raj Kapoor
At the age of just 14, he got the lead role in Mehboob Khan’s film ‘Takdir’. The film was a hit and after that Nargis never looked back. From 1949 to 1951, he gave films like ‘Andaz’, ‘Barsaat’ and ‘Awara’, in which he was accompanied by Raj Kapoor. All these films were one of the highest grossing films of that era and the pair of Nargis-Raj Kapoor became the favorite of the audience. Rumors of love also intensified between the two, while Raj Kapoor was already married. The love of both of them rose, but could not find the floor and the two separated.
Sunil Dutt’s name came in life again
During the shooting of ‘Mother India’, a fire broke out on the set in an accident. Sunil Dutt rescued Nargis from fire without caring for his life. This was the turn where the relationship between the mother and son of reel life took the form of a love story in real life. In 1958, both of them got married and started a new life. He had three children from this marriage, Sanjay Dutt, Namrata and Priya Dutt. While Namrata and Priya Dutt stayed away from films, Sanjay Dutt appeared in films and became covered. The first film ‘Rocky’ made him a star, but his mother’s wish remained incomplete. Nargis got cancer and his condition did not improve completely even after treatment in America. She wanted a lot to see her son in films, but Sanjay’s film was released on 8 May 1981 and Nargis said goodbye to this world just five days before that.
