Heavy rain alert in Uttarakhand, Kedarnath Yatra stopped till 14 August; Advisory issued

Monsoon is wreaking havoc in Uttarakhand. Somewhere due to heavy rains, river-drains are in spate, and due to cloudburst, people’s lives are in trouble. Meanwhile, today the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert of rain and people have been appealed not to leave their homes unnecessarily. The Rudraprayag district administration has stopped the Kedarnath Yatra till 14 August for the next three days in view of the warning of heavy rains.

What did DM of Rudraprayag say?

Advisory has been issued for all the passengers coming to Kedarnath. In the advisory, passengers have been requested to avoid traveling this journey in view of the weather warning. DM Prateek Jain of Rudraprayag said that the Meteorological Center in Dehradun has predicted heavy rainfall at many places across the state including Rudraprayag on August 12, 13 and 14. He said, “In view of the warning of passengers, the journey of Kedarnath Dham has been temporarily stopped for the next three days in view of the safety of passengers,” he said.

24 hours JCB and Pokeland machines deployed in ‘Danger Zone’

DM said that according to the guidelines of the State Disaster Management Department, all departments have been instructed to stay on alert during this period. He said that the warning system has been tested and 24 -hour JCB and Pokeland machines have been deployed in the ‘Danger Zone’ of the National Highway, so that the road can be immediately opened when the route is interrupted. He said that the water level of the river is constantly being monitored and people living on the banks of the river have been appealed to go to safe places.
