Chardham Yatra has been stopped for 24 hours after the warning of extremely heavy rain in Uttarakhand. In many districts of Uttarakhand, heavy rain alert has been issued from June 29 to July 1. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert especially for 29 June and July 1. There has been a lot of landslide due to the earlier rain. Due to this, many people also lost their lives. Some people are still missing, whose search is on. In such a situation, the Chardham Yatra has been stopped for the next 24 hours in view of the alert of heavy rain.
The Meteorological Department has warned heavy rain till July 1. The risk of landslides increases due to excess rainfall. The roads are closed when landslides or floods and devotees get trapped in the mountains. In the coming days, the journey can be stopped again in case of excess rain and landslides.
What did the Division Commissioner tell?
Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “Char Dham Yatra has been adjourned for the next 24 hours keeping in mind the warning of heavy rain. Police and administration officials have been instructed to stop pilgrims in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Sonprayag and Vikasnagar.” The journey is expected to resume when the weather is normal. However, the weather may be bad here for the coming three days.
Cloud burst in Uttarkashi
Eight to nine laborers went missing after a cloudburst near the sewing band between Paligad and Ojri Daburkot in the Barkot area on the Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarkashi district amidst continuous rains. Officials said here that on receiving the information of the incident after 12 pm on Saturday midnight, police, administration, state disaster counter -protest force and other agencies have started relief and rescue operations. Barkot police station in -charge Deepak Kathhet said that some laborers engaged in road construction were living there with tents and they were swept away when the cloudbursts came out when they came to a loud inundation. He said that there are reports of the disappearance of eight to nine people, whose campaign has been started to investigate. All these laborers are said to be of Nepali origin.
Yamunotri highway closed
In addition to the sewing band since the cloudburst, the Yamunotri highway is also closed in two to three other places, which is trying to open the National Highway team. At the same time, road connectivity near Ojri has been broken. According to information received from the District Disaster Control Office, the water level of the Yamuna river has also increased due to continuous rains, while in Sianachatti, Kupra Kunshla Trikili Motor Bridge has come under threat. It has been said in the information that in Kuthanore, due to excess rainfall and cloudburst, there is a report of damage to the agricultural land of local villagers and debris has been filled in the fields. However, there is no loss of loss of life or animal in Kuthanore at present.
