Heavy rains and landslides in Himachal
Shimla: While heavy rains and cloudbursts in Uttarakhand are causing chaos due to heavy rains in many parts of Himachal Pradesh, on Wednesday, 617 roads including four national highways were blocked and educational institutions had to be closed in many districts. Officials said that due to the rains on Tuesday night, there was a huge devastation on the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra route due to which the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra was postponed. Moderate to heavy rains continued in many parts of the state.
How much rain?
According to the Meteorological Department, 145 mm in Kasauli from Tuesday night, 122.8 millimeters in Dharampur, 120 mm in Gohar, 103.2 mm in Malraon, 95.9 mm in Baggi, 93.4 mm in Nagrota Suri, 86.4 mm in Naina Devi, 80.3 mm in Sundernagar, 71.4 mm in Kangra, 71.4 mm in Kangra, 70.4 mm in Bilasapur, 67 in Bilasapur Milli, Mandi received 65.8 mm, Shimla 64.4 mm and Dharamshala 64 mm received rainfall. The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) said that on Wednesday, 617 roads including four national highways were blocked, out of which 377 roads are from Mandi district and 90 from Kullu district.
Traffic on these highways closed
Officials said that after the landslide, Chandigarh-Manali National Highway (NH-21), Old Hindustan-Tibet Marg (NH-5), Mandi-Dharmapur (NH-3) and Aut-Sainz route (NH-305) were closed for the movement of vehicles. He said that Shimla-Kalka National Highway, blocked at a mill bend near Koti in Solan district, has been opened for the movement of vehicles. Educational institutions including schools, colleges and Anganwadi were closed in Sunni, Kumarasain, Chaupal, Rampur subdivisions, Karsog in Mandi district and some subdivisions of Solan district in Shimla district, Karsog and Sundernagar in Mandi district and some subdivisions of Solan district. Many schools in Shimla city have announced holidays or have asked to study through online.
Kinnaur Kailash Yatra postponed
The Kinnaur district administration has postponed the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra after heavy losses on the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra route due to heavy rains. According to officials, the bridges of Tanglaipi and Kangrang have been washed away due to increasing water flow in the rivers. Most of the walking routes have either become dangerous slippery or have been in the grip of landslides, causing a serious threat to the safety of pilgrims. The official order states that the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra is being temporarily postponed until next notice, given these adverse conditions. The pilgrims currently present on the route are safely held in milling food and cave and all necessary arrangements have been made for their safety. (Language)
