People on the road to protest against the death of the student

Bhubaneswar: There was a huge uproar outside the Odisha Assembly on Wednesday morning, when the protests intensified against the death of the self -immolation. In Balasore, the student had set herself on fire in the college campus on Saturday, accusing him of not taking action against a professor accused of sexual harassment. Opposition BJD staged a strong protest over the incident and has also called for an eight -hour shutdown in Balasore district. They are demanding a judicial inquiry into the incident to ensure justice.

In the video revealed from the protest site, the protesters are seen trying to break the barricade, after which the police had to release water showers to disperse the mob. To control the situation, the state police also fired tear gas shells and continued water showers on the protesters.

Eight opposition parties led by the Congress have called for the Odisha bandh on July 17 to protest the death of the college student who set themselves on fire after the complaint of sexual harassment.

Many BJD workers in custody

The Odisha police have also detained several BJD activists, including vice -president Debi Prasad Mishra and other party workers, who were protesting against the death of a Balasore student. The BJP is also calling for Balasore bandh to protest against the death of a Balasore student.

BJD leader Bhrigu Bakshipatra said, “Today the entire BJD team has come to siege to the secretariat, so that the resignation of the Chief Minister and Higher Education can be demanded. Hopefully, the BJP government will get goodwill and the Chief Minister and the Chief Minister and the Minister of Higher Education will resign to provide justice to the state.

BJD MLA Sushant Kumar Raut said, “This has never happened before. BJD demands a judicial inquiry into the matter. We are protesting against the government and demanding justice for the girl.”

Security in public service building

Meanwhile, the police said that security has also been tightened in other government buildings of the city including Rajiv Bhawan and Kharvel Bhawan located around the Public Service Bhawan. Police Commissioner S Dev Dutt Singh was present near the Lok Sabha Bhavan to monitor the security system. Officials said that the employees were given admission in the Public Service Bhavan after a thorough investigation into their identity.

He informed that admission is being given only from gate number-1 and all the other gates have been closed. He informed that the entry of visitors has also been banned. However, admission passes are being issued on the recommendation of the concerned departments to the people taking appointments in advance.
