Himachal government’s major action in Vimal Negi case, DGP, SP Shimla sent on leave

Shimla: The government has taken a big action on the officers accused of indiscipline in the Vimal Negi death case. Taking seriously the allegations of indiscipline and negligence, the government has sent the State Director General of Police (DGP) Atul Verma, Shimla Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Gandhi and Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Omkar Chand Sharma on leave. The Sukhu government has taken a big administrative step amidst questions and increasing political pressure after the suspected death of Chief Engineer Vimal Negi in Himachal Pradesh.

Charges of all departments were withdrawn from Omkar Chand Sharma

With this action, the government has also withdrawn the responsibility of all departments from Omkar Sharma. In his place, senior IAS officer KK Pant has been given the charge of Additional Chief Secretary (Home) as well as revenue and other major departments. His stature has been clearly increased by the government.

Ashok Tiwari gets additional DGP

The government has also made immediate changes in the police department. Vigilance DG Ashok Tiwari has now been given additional charge of Director General of Police of Himachal Pradesh. At the same time, SP Gaurav Singh of Solan has been made SP of Shimla. These appointments have been described by the government as an interim system, so that the investigation process can run in a transparent manner.

Let us know that the CBI is investigating the death of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL). Earlier, SIT was investigating it. The CBI has registered a case under sections 108 and 3 (5) of BNS 2023. The High Court handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI on 23 May. Negi’s wife complained about the case to the police. The court has constituted an SIT to investigate the case, which will not include Himachal Pradesh officials.
